Hope you all had a great week end of racing.Except for minor hiccups, most of the racing went by form book. For me last two weeks has been very good. It's a great feeling when your choice is in the winners enclosure & gives immense pleasure and satisfaction if your hard work is rewarded.

Following are impressive runners, which are for your note book.If properly placed by their respective trainers, they can win.

Heros Dominance is another one to be kept in mind for a repeat show.

28th June B'lore
Noble View won as he liked, blood line indicates he is out & out a stayer. Has got a classic touch.
Can easily reach class I in its present condition. Connections may try in Bangalore Summer Derby, before targeting other centres.
Lightnin Blues will certainly pick up one more race.( Ballerina Girl up to 1200mtrs, Prayatna also should win in the near future )
Dancing Highness is another one for your note book.

29th June
Tomsk again won with great deal of authority, can easily become the champion miler. Back him till he is beaten. It reminds me, another horse of Bangalore " Rio Bravo " from Sriram Komanders yard, who has defied the handicap every time & reached highest class sensationally, with amazing turn of foot. It's unfortunate that Southern Summit has to face Tomsk in its devastating mood, like his stable mate Originality. South.Summit will live to fight another day like Orginality did.
Star Presentation also won extremely well, there by advertising it's classic claims. If not classics definitely a class I material & will easily tackle the step up in the distance.
Noble Prince will have its say in all the graded races in store. Longer the better. Alekona ran a great race, but we have to wait and watch for repeat performance.

Aluminium / Steel Shoes in horse racing

Hi all,
As I go through some of the blogs of our colleagues, it seems lot of importance is given to this particular aspect. My understanding, experience & interaction with some of the trainers says, if it's going to be a tight finish, say a nose,shd,hd etc, even a diff of 50/100 gms in shoes weight will make the difference.But for horses which are far superior in class to others( Ex. MAM's wards ) it hardly matters. Here is an interesting article, which is by a famous farrier from Newzeland, which may be of interest to you.He quotes,
" Brent Jury has worked professionally as a farrier for 15 years, including stints overseas during which he has shod at the Badminton and Burghley international three-day-events, worked as a team farrier for the United States Equestrian Team, and as team farrier for the New Zealand eventing team at the World Equestrian Games in 2002. He explains the work of a farrier.
Everything a horse does, it does on its feet. No matter how well bred or how good their conformation, if their feet are of poor quality or structure, then the rest of the animal is compromised to some degree.
Because of human intervention in horse breeding, the process of "natural selection" no longer applies. As a result, we are not necessarily breeding the structural strength into horse's feet needed to cope with the forces that racing and other sports place on them. There are surprisingly few horses of any breed with perfect feet, although fortunately there are very few with extremely dysfunctional feet. Breeding, domestication, neglect and poor shoeing are all factors that may contribute to less than ideal feet. Given that the horse spent sixty million years evolving to its present form (without shoes on), shoeing carried out to the very best of a farrier's knowledge and ability still has, to some degree, a negative effect on hoof function.
But with specialist knowledge the farrier can help compensate for some of the short-falls that occur as a result of domestication. The basic reason for shoeing is that the horse wears down its feet faster than they grow. Anatomical and physical knowledge of the horse's legs and feet, coupled with an understanding of how the horse moves (biomechanics), as well as forging, shoeing skills, and horse sense are all elements needed to be an effective farrier.
Regular balanced hoof trimming and shoeing are essential to help achieve maximum locomotive output. On average, a racehorse needs shoeing every four to five weeks. Correct shoeing may help avoid damage to tendons, ligaments and joint structures of the lower leg. The higher the performance demanded of the horse, the higher the demands on their legs and feet. Consider, if we can increase a horse's stride length by 10mm for the same energy output, then we gain one metre over one hundred strides � a significant gain when a nose can be the difference between winning or coming second.
Most thoroughbreds race in aluminium shoes called plates. These are light and strong, and wear remarkably well. While most are shod with aluminium plates, a few still use light steel plates. Initially, when a horse first comes into work, a medium-weight steel shoe is used as this will both wear and support the foot well. The switch is made to aluminium plates once the horse's preparation has reached the stage of either trialling or racing. Aluminium plates are a fairly recent product, having been introduced within the last 20 or so years. Previously, horses were raced in lightweight steel shoes and worked in work shoes. These were interchanged when the horse raced, usually on race day. This was an added expense and also more damaging to the feet due to the extra nailing involved. Today, once the horse is racing they stay in their plates until they are worn out. At this time the feet also need to be trimmed and rebalanced.
The New Zealand Farriers Association (NZFA) has developed rules for shoeing, enforced by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing. Each horse is inspected before its race by a designated plate inspector. These rules are not necessarily related to best shoeing practice. Rather they pertain more to the safety of the horse and jockey, and fairness to the racing public. Unlike a trotter, there are few "interference" problems at the gallop. Interference is when a horse strikes another leg mid-stride. At the gallop the toe of the leading front leg can sometimes come in contact with the diagonal back leg, an interference called speed cutting. There are ways that the farrier can shoe a horse to help prevent this. This usually involves making a variation to the shoes and/or the angles of the feet. Another problem is when the hind fetlocks distend down so far at the support phase of the stride that they come in contact with the ground, causing inflammation and skin breakage in this area. Some of the causes of stride-related problems may not necessarily come from the horse's feet, but can be due to incorrect conformation, or from the horse compensating for soreness somewhere else. This may even be soreness in the mouth; hence equine dentistry is also important.
I have been shoeing professionally for 15 years, and shoe for two of the South Island's more successful thoroughbred stables. However, my work also involves shoeing a variety of horses, including standardbreds, show jumpers, eventers, hunters, endurance and polo ponies, clydesdales, and even the odd donkey.
As a result of technology there are many different types of machine-made shoes available. This has considerably reduced the time spent hand-forging my own shoes, although I still make some specialist shoes that cannot be bought. Lameness from the feet or legs are specialist areas that I often deal with in conjunction with the veterinarian, and for which such specialised shoes might be made.
There are many products on the market that we can use to enhance hooves. One of the most useful is Equibond. This is a two-part mix that sets to the same consistency as the hoof wall and enables us to add to or repair hoof � a fairly recent innovation and a great concept as in the past we have only been able to remove hoof.
One of my roles is as an assessor and tutor for the NZFA, which has developed NZQA-registered units and courses that make up the Certified Farrier certification. Of concern is a lack of trainees undertaking these courses, which may result in fewer skilled farriers throughout the industry. For the benefit of the horse we need to encourage more of our young, horse-orientated people into the profession. "

It's four way contest, with slight advantage to Apertini, due to allowance claimed by the jky. I normally don't count the allowance for no whip jkys, while calculating ratings. I want the visitors of this blog to do their own handicapping & come out with their own selections & reasons or comments for the same.Come on let's be interactive. Colts Trial Stakes

Main contenders for Colts Trial Stakes to be run on Sunday 22nd June.

Fleeting Arrow(Burden Of Proof / Sabre Dance ) is a winner of four races out of 5 starts, the only time it lost, was in PWM in Mumbai,where it ran an impressive 5th from way behind. Also accounted for Mark of Gibraltar , Palazzios Sun & Sugar Ray in the same race.Has done nothing wrong till now & will be the favourite to lift the colts championship, but has a fight on hand from MAM's M.Of. Gibraltor & Star Of Washington.

Mark Of Gibraltar ( Salt Lake / Madam Equis )is the top one among his entries, has come up a lot after its dismal run in PWM & placed a decent 2nd behind, all conquering SET ALIGHT & ran 2 lengths above Palazzios Sun. Will be right there to upset the applecart of Fleet.Arrow.

Palazzios Sun ( Alnasr Alwasheek / Palazzio ) won authoritatively on its debut, but did not improve the way it should have. Looks difficult to win, can at most place & grab some minor stakes offered.

Lycia Falcon ( Royal Gladiator / Uranium ) ran a great race, even before having a feel of Bangalore race track & was very unlucky 2nd behind Mothers Pride in a class II race. This one is the joker in the pack, can cause a flutter if it shows improvement on its previous run.

Archipenko (China Visit / Born To Dance ) was fancied heavily against Fleet.Arrow, in their previous encounter due to weight difference.Now at level weights, it will be herculean task to beat its nemesis Fl.Arrow.

Arktouros ( Diffident / Girl From Ipanema ).There was lot of hype before the race, but was humiliated by Mr.Ramu's Fantastic Quest. Pesi Baba has to produce a Houdini Act , if this one has to win the race.

Star Of Washington ( Placerville / Stunning ).Last, but not the least, there are lot of expectations from this bred in purple, full brother to Southern Empire, who won with great deal of comfort after withdrawal of Equidae.The beating he gave to Dorabella & latters subsequent 4th to Set Alight in fillies trial stakes, puts him at par with Mark of Gibraltar.

My final choices are

Race Analysis for 15th June 08 Bangalore Summer races

1st Race
All the first three are very very very ordinary. Difficult to win a race unless meets a very very very poor lot of competitors.Whisper Valley was undone by the jky in this race.
2nd Race
Sparsh was an impressive winner & will pick up a race immediately at the home centre or Bangalore if the price is right.Kyles of Bute met with interference after jump out & after that ridden with utmost restraint & lost a certain race due to poor handling. Winner when saddled.Royal Chief went out for an airing.Leave Forever Mark till it's proven.
3rd Race
Un Due is undoubtedly the most impressive winner of the day.Can easily win a class II in the present condition & has scope for further improvement.Though my days best was "Celestial Treasure", they will never/ever meet again in their life time. I made a mistake with regard to Cel.Treasure's prev.run, as it had run on a very bad track affected by rain & had to simulate the timings & my work went for a toss. I am really sorry for this lapse.
4th Race
All are very ordinary, it's difficult to forsee any of them winning a race in the immediate future,unless they face an ordinary field.
5th Race
What can I say, about SET ALIGHT & KIARA, they have proved my speed ratings. I backed Kiara @1.25 for place which was really good returns.Former is invincible in all the classics. Kiara is good upto 1600 mtrs & will be a top contender from 1200 to 1600 mtr races.Set Alight is a class apart.
6th Race
On A Roll was unlucky to meet one of the "chupa rustums" in the form of Lava, who was held back for about a year. Though it lost the race, was not disgraceful in its defeat & will live to fight another day.
7th Race
Ready To Mingle will win another race for asking. JKy on Bullish Luck was attrocious, how Jagdeesh wins in Mysore is beyond me.With strong saddle support Bull.Luck is a ready made winner, longer the better. Mint is very ordinary.

Race Analysis for 14th June 08 Bangalore Summer Races

14th June Saturday
1st Race
Light Brigade in present condition will easily win a class III race either in Bangalore Or Hyderabad, preferably in home centre.Rest of them less said is better.
2nd Race
All of them very ordinary.Fly For Sure will pick up a race in a moderate company of 3 yr olds or in a Cl V handicap Race.
3rd race
Phoenix reach won very impressively in class IV, can win in even in class II, if judiciously placed.Royal Player should pick up a race in the immediate future. Rest of them or very very ordinary.Can't see them winning a race in near future.
4th Race
Own Voice is outstanding runner of the day, will hear a lot about this horse & is a Class I stuff. Repique will easily pick up a race in the right company & also note Clever Ploy in a 1100 mtrs race.
5th Race
Lion Heart has a heart of Lion.Can't say about his chances right now about his future races,as the company will be tougher & tougher.Badge of Gold was sacrificed for Our Little savage today.Jetfire also did not show its true colours.
6th Race
Nothing much canbe written about this race, except that Royal Hero has to shed atleast 10 kgs to pick up a race.
7th Race
Except for Raiders Son, I can't forsee any other horse winning at the present handicap. The beaten lot especially Chilly Wind & Ever so Clever needs further weight reduction or a judicious placement by the trainer to win a race.

Let's start with eliminating process first.
Romantic Getaway, because of Jky choice, short of a run & on the decline
Delhi horse Coco Chanel is ruled out with its back breaking weight.
Flying Rudolph - Jky puts me off/ Hyderabad import,can't imagine in this company
Orochi- again choice of jky & distance is against.
Stafire- Ryan Marshal does not appeal, though has the highest rating.Also I have a feeling this horse is on the decline.
Pick the winner among the rest
Badge of gold was unlucky to lose with heavy impost of 63 kgs.Now with forceful YSS in the saddle has a decent chance to score
Jet Fire was another unlucky horse to lose against Lionheart.Today weights in favour, Should run above Lionheart.
Lionheart a very brave hearted horse, defies the age & handicap every time & I am sure will put in every thing at all importand end.
Einstein should also run a decent race, with stable mate Green Bax having an upset chance.
Our Little Savage & Renascent should improve to have any say at all the important end.I feel Renascent may be the dark one, who ran a forward race last time out with Md.Sfq in the saddle.

Has literally set alight the race course by winning all its four starts,ofcourse one win was on objection being upheld against Autonomy.This race is at it's mercy. Set Alight will open at un backable odds. Why rake your brains, enjoy the race. See if you can get some place odds for Kiara or Star Wave.

STAR WAVE (Placer Ville-La Bonne Vie )
Star Wave is the conqueror of Kiara, ran as a favourite against Set Alight, Autonomy & Palazzios Sun in Breeders Produce Stakes in Mumbai where she finished 4th ( 3.5 lengths behind the winner ) & again was humbled by the likes of Autonomy & Red Romeo, where she finished 7th in Poonawalla Breeders Multi Million.It has to show lot of improvement to beat Set Alight, who is vastly improved

KIARA ( China Visit-Blue Ridge )
Pedigree suggests, it will be a top sprinter, but the manner of victory in its last run suggests it can easily tackle 1400 mtrs. Kiara won 4 races in a row out of seven starts & is the most improved one as per its last victory.Should be in place money.

SALSERA ( Brave Hunter- Sarah Scadara )
Conqueror of Star presentation, though the victory can not be taken on its face value as the later was running after being gelded.Has slim chances of beating the first three.

ALL MY COLOURS (Alnasheer Alwasheek -Astana )
Has come to hand late, can stay till cows come home. But right now it's difficult to foresee posing any major threat to the prime contenders.

SHOOT A RAINBOW ( Razeen - Colour Presentation )
Ran a decent 2nd behind Fleeting Rainbow on its debut. But was an utter flop during the current season ? Well I'll leave this puzzle to you. It's beyond my comprehension.

The above ratings are based on my study & system.It may be possible others may have different opinion.
As per the above ratings SET ALIGHT is towering above others. Barring a mishap it looks like, Pesi's ward is going to lift all the classics.
The other horse which showed phenominal improvement is FANTASTIC QUEST.
We have to wait & watch its progress & which centre's classics MAM is going to target.
Star of washington is not really tested due to the withdrawal of Equidae which is another good type. At this stage it's difficult to comment on his chances in colts trial stakes,though it has won its preparatory race in great style.
The horses which have run sparingly, have chance to improve their ratings further.

11th June Mysore Races Analysis

Hi Guys,
Today is not our day.
Ranveer lost as a favourite. Follow this horse & back it when it's at longer odds. Today's run is unbelivable, as Khoka is running ahead of him.

Though Victory Queen won very well, I still can't digest the run of High Tower running through out wide, may have finished close 2nd if it ran with purpose. Will strike soon.

Gypsys Advise definitely was a better horse & won well.Heros Dominance hanging through out the straight, needed this run & should be a different customer when he runs next time or when fancied.

Royal Hawk also ran a great race & should pick up a race soon, as it was bit lethargic at gates, travelled on the wide outside & lost by a narrow margin

Big gamble was successfully pulled off on Pied Piper. But the punters who had their money on Dangerous illusion were unlucky, as it lost a certain race.

Gold grid was unlucky to meet one of the 'chupa rustums' in the form of Mazeppa. Though Mazeppa had all the credentials to win the race, all its previous runs were deceptive. Gold Grid will live to fight another day.

The Jky on Mauritius Star has put me off, though it had required rating to win. When the right money is on, it looks the Jky merit is immaterial, because the horse is already brought down by a class or two. There was lot of support for Mau.Star in place in Pune ring & little bit on win. The connections have played certainly this horse.Musical Signature ran a great race.

Lyra won the race & I recovered my entire days losses. But told my friends, dont rejoice,there will be an objection by Appu & better cover your bet by eating over ruled. There was an objection & also it was serious enough & I ate over ruled @ 0.20ps, came out with small loss.

I could not concentrate much on todays card, as there was continous interruption of Electricity at my place.
How Ever following are my choices. As always catuion is the key word in Mysore & keep away from big betting.
