Lighter side 4
One day while he was at the track betting on the ponies and nearly losing his shirt,Mitch noticed a priest,
who stepped out onto the track,and blessed the forehead of one of the horses lining up for the 4th race.
Lo and behold, that horse - a very long shot - won the race.
Mitch was most interested, to see what the priest did the next race. Sure enough, the priest epped out onto the track as the 5th race horses lined up,and placed a blessing on the forehead of one of the horses.
Mitch made a beeline for the window,and placed a small bet on the horse.Again, even though it was another long shot, the horse the priest had blessed won the race.
Mitch collected his winnings,and anxiously waited to see which horse the priest would bless for the 6th race.
The priest showed up, blessed a horse,Mitch bet on it, and it won!Mitch was elated!
As the day went on, the priest continued blessing horses, and they always came in first.
Mitch began to pull in some serious money,and by the last race,he knew his wildest dreams
were going to come true.
He made a quick stop at the ATM,withdrew all his savings,and awaited the priest's blessing that would tell him which horse to bet on. True to his pattern,the priest stepped out on to the track before the last race and blessed the forehead, eyes, ears,and hooves of one of the horses.
Mitch bet every cent, and watched the horse come in dead last.
Mitch was dumbfounded.He made his way to the track,and when he found the priest, he demanded,
"What happened, Father?
All day long you blessed horses and they won.
The last race,you blessed a horse and he lost.Now,thanks to you,I've lost all my savings.
The priest nodded wisely and said,
That's the problem with you Protestants,you can't tell the difference between a simple blessing and the Last Rites

So he pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police car to catch up with him. Pulling in behind him, the police officer walked up to the driver's side of the BMW, looked at his watch and said, 'Sir, my shift ends in 10 minutes. Sorry for the delayed response, as I was hard pressed for time.You have raised very important aspect of racing, i.e in & out running,horses not running to their full potential or blatantly hooking so that the connections will capitalise when nobody fancies them.
Last few meetings in Bangalore form has taken back seat,Favourites or well fancied horses are falling by way side like nine pins.I'm not saying all favourites should win, but if the horses with merit loose continuously,there is no way but to stop racing until the things become normal. As you said racing is a mugs game, but the merit of the horse can not be hidden for long, or else it will back fire.I'll give few examples from Saturdays racing( 26th July).
I'll quote three examples of in/out runs of Orange Orchard, Superior Surprise & Celestial Treasure.
Orange Orchard
Pl go back to archives & check for the race ratings / selections & comments.
On 18th may you will find the best rated horse was Orange Orchard & I've tipped as one of the good bets.It ran like a dud.
On 8th June, the horse had still the best rating, but I was bit careful in my comments by saying, if the money comes in its way, can back it as a good bet.Again it ran miserably after being placed favourably at the bend.
Now coming back to 26th July, the horse was still best rated, but I have stopped giving ratings for my own reasons. In fact I did not tip this horse in one/two, because by now self doubts have crept in, about the potential of this horse. But once inside the ring & seeing the flow of money on Orange Orchard, I took one last chance & waged a decent bet at 5.5. It opened at 10/1 in Pune.
Rating has helped me out finally.
Superior Surprise
On 7th June I tipped this horse as one of the good bets & duly obliged at good odds.
Again on 6th July it was the best rated horse along with Double Elite & I recommended as one of the good bets because of its current form & being a winner in the previous run , but meekly surrenderd & finished 5th in the capable hands of our dear KPG.
On 26th July, connections switched from superior KPG to inferior Shoban Babu,the horse had still the rating to win, but I assumed that horse may have started weight reduction process & hence did not tip for win, but only as a third choice. But once Orange Orchard won the race, my confidence level was back & I made a jodi bet on Chilly Wind & Superior Surprise @ 8/1 & 9/1. You know the result.
Celestial Treasure
On 15th June I tipped this horse as my Days Best & what a pathetic run it was. I thought I made a mistake while calculating the rating from its previous run in race No.42, because the track was in very poor condition due to over night rains.
Coming back to Saturdays racing, again the horse was towering above the opposition, but the self doubt had crept in, though I tipped it to win, no where I mentioned it as a good bet.
By now I already had a good day, because I also backed Reflection Of Gold @ 7/1. Though I was very very confident that, Celestial Treasure will trounce the field, being it a favourite @ evens, I did not back & I don't regret.The way Cel treasure won, my confidence level is back to what it was earlier & also faith in my system was restored.
The summary of this whole excersise is that ratings are true , horses are true, form is true & only we humans are not true. Stick to your rating/ judgement / logic, what ever method you follow, you will end up, if not with profit, atleast you will break even & will enjoy racing.

Did not live up to the hype of it's bloodline & is a just a shadow of its illustrious siblings Smart Chieftan ,Southern Empire & Classical Act.Though distance is in its favour, has to show lot of improvement to overwhelm the first three.If Archipenko fails to stay the distance can pay dividend in place.
Star Presentation ( A Fleets Dancer / Saffron Dancer ) MSR 97
Improving with every run after being gelded, won with authority in a CL II race, where the opposition was mediocre.Will appreciate the increase in distance, but has miles to go, to be a threat to the front line contenders.
Rest of the runners are not worth spending your time & discussing about their merits.

5th July 08 Bangalore Post Race Analysis
Spark Of Elegance,though racing after longish gap of almost 8 months, won without being whipped.Congratulations to Mr.Prasannakumar on his first win , on his name after getting his trainers license in Bangalore.This one is sure to improve further & a repeat show is on the cards.Royal Player will have it's day soon
Though Appertain won well, it's clear that it needs more distance.It's difficult to ascertain his chances in future, as the field it faced today was pedestrain.Ignore the run of Savannah Pride.
Nothing much can be said about this race except, Buck Passer Junior won well.Zangi is getting back into shape.Ronkonkoma ran a forward race, may be getting ready for a sprint race soon.
Blushing Beam was handy 2nd till bend & easilty over took Luminous Gold.Spirit Of Excellence responded well in the closing stages to finish 2nd. Axiology also has put up a good show & is the one for your notebook in 4yrs & older group.
Spark of Class start to finish attempt was foiled by both Super Sha & Satr Speed.
Super Sha Was erratic under whipping & went horizontally across & came in the path of Star Speed, who also veered out due to this. All the 3 runners are impressive & can win.Star Speed longer the better.Super Sha will appreciate a step up in the dist to 1600 mtrs, where as Spark Of Class best suited for 1200 to 1400 mtrs.
Diamond Hunter won easily from Crocodile Hunter,who had all the chances but failed.Note Croco.Hunter in home centre.Dinesa flashed on the scene from no where to snatch 3rd spot from pastiche & Aurelian. Ignore the run of Mercurial
Dash to cash was lucky to win this race as the saddle of Perfect Analysis slipped during the race.How ever this was first run of Dash to cash & is bound to come up further on this run & can score in Cl IV in near future. Perfect Analysis is also to be noted for future.Chinab is very ordinary, better leave him alone.
Ecuador covered good ground to nail Royal Hero on the post. Forget Footstepsinthesky, with its heavy bandages & is not racing fit who ran detached last. Arabian memories has to shed some weight to win a race.Gara Fluid ran a good forward race.

My views/impressions of the races run in Mysore on 4th July 08
1st Race
Clasic Armour , Sign of luck & Roto Rooa are for your note book. Major Impression also ran good race, for the first time, with work rider J.Paswan.All of them can win in Cl V, when facing moderate opposition.
2nd Race
Amatol lost this race due to the fact that it was never given a punishing race for a long time.It will be a different customer altogether next time out.Mauritius star was very impressive.
3rd Race
It will be difficult for Sp.Gallery to win at this handicap in class III unless shows marked improvement.Ench.girl won well, but can't see a repeat performance in the immediate future.
4th Race
Boston Ranger was impressive & can repeat.Bee For you was pedestrain.
5th Race
Forget Evanston in the immediate future.Rest of them ran true to their form. It's difficult forecast about any one.
6th Race
Ignore the run of Eona & is capable of better show.
7th Race
Cruise Control won running away,but difficult to repeat.Deltic Star will fight to live another day.

Windsor Square is impressive, can repeat on promotion.Fathers Glory,Stornoway & Much More are for your note book & have winning chance when judiciously placed by their respective trainers

Verical Limits can repeat. One Good Thing was unfortunate to meet well disguised Vert.Limits, will live to fight another day.Celerity also has a chance to win in modest company

Though Zooming won an impossible race, I can't see a repeat performance.Among the beaten brigade, Regal Music is impressive

Hi All,
I feel that Fighting star has lost a certain race due to questionable ride?.There was enough gap atleast for two horses to pass through along the rails.But Alford chose to switch the horse wide outside & lost very precious ground. Was it an injudicious ride or has he hooked the horse.Pl.watch the video & I request the comments of fellow race goers.

This helps me as well as visitors of this blog, how I am faring & review/rectify the system I am following, if necessary.It will also helps to plan one's betting strategy.
